Does anyone have experience working for InstaSwim?

Hello all! I’ve been an instructor for 10 years but took a break the last few years to focus on school and working in my field. I’m looking into getting a second job and found instaswim working a lot in my area. I’m curious if any folks can attest to them? I’m a little weary about being an independent contractor and what that looks like vs working for a swim school or a gym. TIA!

Absolutely incredible

This was the only vid I got of the night, I did my best to be present the whole time. I had the pleasure of seeing them for the first time at Starland Ballroom earlier this year and although I’ll never be THAT close to Dave ever again, hearing Big Me tonight fucking ruled. Tonights setlist was far better than Starland, in my opinion. And seeing Dave go behind the drum kit was so fucking cool. I did notice a bunch of folks being wheeled off the floor, I hope everyone’s okay and made it home safe.

Can’t wait for the next time 🤘🏻

First time seeing Billy and I cried

Such an absolutely ethereal feeling being so close to the band. We traveled almost 3 hours and bought the tickets on the ride there. I’ve been to a ton of concerts but never to a concert like this. So grateful to have been surrounded by such good energy and good people. So many kids bouncing around with their parents. I’m glad I listened to folks that told me to go see him in person, that the studio versions of his music didn’t do him justice. I’ve never cried during a concert before and I absolutely SOBBED when he played Secrets. Now we’re contemplating making the 4 hour drive to Baltimore in October. I’m determined to hear Richard Petty live 🤩 thanks for being so cool y’all 🫶🏻

Cat scratching door at night

Hello all! I wanted to see what other folks have done to deter their cats from scratching the door at night.

For context, I have two 7 year old cats but it’s my daughter that constantly scratches. We usually leave the bedroom door open all night but lately they’ve both been asking for breakfast 2 hours early (my fiancée gets up for work at 6am and gives them breakfast then) waking us up around 4-5am so when she starts hollering and he starts knocking things over to get us up we usually close the door once they starts menacing. However now she’s gotten back in the habit of scratching the bedroom door once it’s closed to still get us up and giving her breakfast early. This was an issue about a year ago but it stopped after we started playing with her more at night and giving her some late night dry food around 10pm before we go to bed. I don’t mind giving them late night crunch closer to 11pm but she starts hollering for it at 8-8:30pm and she’s a VERY persistent girl (he could care less lol.) And the late night activity has become more of an enrichment activity rather than tiring them out.

I’m definitely not opposed to getting some double sided tape to deter her, I just worry it’ll rip the paint off of our door if it’s on for too long. Initially I was thinking about a retractable baby gate but there isn’t enough room between the door and the framing for it to really fit and she would totally jump over it if it was in the hallway. They also have plenty of posts and trees to scratch on at night, this is solely food motivated once they see any sliver of the sun coming up. Any advice is greatly appreciated <3

Was cleaning out the closet and found a relic

Few years back my mom gifted this to my fiancée for Christmas. She found it on Facebook Marketplace for $25, signed by Lenny Dykstra

How much debt are you in from your MSW?

Hey yall! I wanted to get some folks opinions on my situation.

I’m going back for my MSW in the fall (yay!) and I’m trying to figure out my loan options. For context, I have about $112k in private and federal loan debt from undergrad. To make a long story short, I chose to stay in school during a really dark time and struggle mentally instead of taking a year off and ended up losing a year worth of scholarships when my gpa dropped. Huge point of regret, shame and anxiety for me. Given everything that’s going on with SAVE right now, I went over to the student loans sub and asked if folks thought it was worth it to take out federal loans rn vs private loans I can get for 2-3% interest.

What I didn’t expect was to get ripped a new one for going into social work with this much existing debt. I’m at the point with where I’ve just accepted that this debt is gonna be a part of my life for the foreseeable future but that’s also part of what’s driving me to go back to school so I can earn more to then put towards that balance. And based off what I’ve heard from other social workers, debt is not uncommon even if it’s not at the capacity I currently have. So I’m just curious to hear from others if they’ve dealt with something similar? I really don’t see myself doing anything else even if it’s not the most lucrative job out there. Of course if I could afford to pay my own schooling with my current job I absolutely would but I unfortunately can’t.

Any advice is greatly appreciated <3

Starland Merch

Curious if anyone has a L/XL t shirt they’d be willing to part with for the right price. I was able to get the black and red one but I really wanted one of the other prints. TIA

What should I do?

Hello all! I’ve been in a bit of limbo with my car and I need some genuine, non biased advice. I’m trying to figure out what my best course of action is before the summer is over.

So I have a 2017 jeep renegade with 124k miles that was a bough out lease. It was my first real car and I used to drive really recklessly in my first few years of driving. Genuinely one of my biggest regrets is not taking better care of this car. After the most recent accident (2023), my car guy told me there was a small crack in the head gasket. He was very honest with me and said given my cars history (3 accidents all together) it would cost more to fix the car than what the car is actually worth and suggested I start saving up. Fast forward to today, I have 2 engine coils misfiring and the head gasket is still fucked. The engine is running so hot that I have to refill my coolant reservoir every time I drive. I reached out to my car guy for a quote just to see how much the fix would be, between buying the parts myself and the labor I’m looking at $3000-$5000. I’m unfortunately in an apartment without garage access and without money for a rental or else I’d attempt to fix it myself.

In regards to a used car, I’m a bit overwhelmed. My only priority is getting a car of similar size to mine with good gas mileage, my budget being under $11-12k. Carvana would give me $2500 for my jeep and then I have about $2000 in an emergency fund right now. I’ve also been approved for a car loan but I’m trying to avoid debt as much as I can. I started looking at CRV’s, RAV4s, Outbacks and Foresters. But I quickly learned that I wasn’t finding anything within my budget that didn’t require major maintenance or more expensive upkeep than I currently pay for. I’m also having a hard time finding a decent year to buy that isn’t out of budget, I don’t need anything new but I want something that doesn’t have too many issues. I have a friend that’s trying to convince me on a lease but even if I negotiate for higher mileage, I drive too much to really feel confident I wouldn’t go over.

So I’m not really sure what my best course of action is. Do I take out a small loan to fix the car I currently have and pray it gets me another hundred thousand miles? Or do I drain my savings and get something different and pray for the best? Any advice is greatly appreciated <3

What are your go to farmers markets?

Farm stands included! Preferably in Middlesex, Monmouth or Ocean counties :) I’ve heard great things about Montclair so I’d be willing to travel a little further as well. I’d like to support our local farmers this season with all the crop challenges. TIA!

Moldy bathroom caulk won’t go away

Hello all! I’ve been struggling to manage the caulk on our bathtub and was curious if others have struggled with the same. I’ve asked our complex to come replace the caulk twice now in the 5 years we’ve lived here and it keeps getting moldy and splitting. From what I’ve read part of the issue is the lack of vent in our bathroom, I’m considering getting a dehumidifier to try and see if that helps (let me know if anyone has first hand experience.) But other than that, no amount of cleaning product has been able to get rid of or keep the mold away. I’m not opposed to continuing to ask our complex to redo it, we’re very fortunate they fix anything we ask without any gripes. But I’d like to at least be able to upkeep the fix if not be able to fix it myself all together. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Edit: corrected humidifier to dehumidifier!

Shadow of the city - Stone Pony

Hey y’all! Im curious if anybody me knows the timeline for the upcoming show at the stone pony. The venue website says it starts at 3pm but I’m assuming the boys won’t actually come out until 8-9ish? I’m curious if anyone had any insight, a friend of mine is wanting me to come to a party in New Brunswick that night and I’m curious if I’d be able to swing both in one day

Advice

Hey y’all! I have a 2017 Renegade I’m unfortunately looking to sell or trade in. Only problem is I do have an accident history and the car is slowly dying.

Almost a year ago now after I noticed the car would give me kickback at random, I started getting a code for a first engine coil misfire. Now it’s 2 coils misfiring. My car guy said it was likely a cracked head gasket or the intake manifold gasket. Given the cars history he told me trying to fix either gasket would cost more than the car is currently worth. It goes through coolant like nobody’s business, I have to refill the reservoir at least once a day. We’ve replaced all the coils and spark plugs within the last 6 months but there’s now a plug that refuses to come out. The only thing it’s got going for it right now is that it’s got 4 new tires that keep spinning despite all these issues. I’m very lucky it’s gotten me as far as it has and I’ll be even luckier if it gets me through the summer. I can’t tell you how much I regret not taking better care of it in my teenage years/early adulthood. I love this car and I’m so sad to see her go.

My family’s suggested trying to sell it on Facebook marketplace and taking whatever money I get to a dealership for another car (I also don’t plan on financing with a dealer, I’d be taking out a personal or car loan with another bank to buy out the next car I get.) But I truthfully don’t think anyone outside of maybe a collector would want the car once they see how it rides, the codes it’s giving and the work that needs to be done to it. I’m not opposed to trading it in to a dealership but I worry they’re gonna severely low ball me on trade in value because of how desperate I am for a new car. The only other option would be to take it to a scrap yard and get straight cash but that’s my last resort at this point. In a perfect world I’d like to get at least $5k for the car but I know that’s very optimistic.

Any advice is greatly appreciated, even if it’s criticism. This is all happening as I’m newly engaged and about to go back to grad school so it’s been a bit overwhelming to try and figure all this out at once. As much as I would love another Renegade, my plan as of right now is to get an older Honda CRV that I can ride for as long as it’ll let me. Thanks y’all
