First name for a boy that goes with the middle name Alec

As the title says. I want to honor my late best friend who passed four years ago.

My spouse and I are starting our conception journey. We have lots of girls names we like but we are struggling with finding a boy’s first name that flows well with Alec as a middle name. We are open to anything but we would prefer something in the not-as-common category.

Thanks! Hope everyone is having a great summer

White Lesbian Couple; POC Sperm Donor Selection - Question of Ethics

Hello all! My wife and I are currently using Just a Baby app to find a sperm donor.

Our current requirements are healthy and handsome sperm donors. We are coming across a lot of very handsome men of color. However we are weary on the ethics of being a white couple purposely having a child of color. I suppose we kind of feel like we would be “stealing” a child from a community we do not belong to.

We desperately want to be parents but we also want to make sure we are doing everything right. We are mostly only interested in the opinions of POC folks. We are also open to hearing from white/mixed race couples and their experiences with having a child that is POC.

We like to think of ourselves as solid accomplices/allies to all POC communities and we would be heartbroken to ever over step those boundaries as it relates to race.

Thank you in advance. We hope everyone is having an excellent summer.

Edit to Add: we also posted in another subreddit and were validated in our concerns. We appreciate anyone who had input, we take it all to heart. We do get POC sperm donors who swipe right on us but we will be making and informed decision to graciously turn them down.

White lesbian couple; question about POC sperm donor selection

Edit to add: We have been validated in our concerns. We truly and deeply appreciate everyone’s input and advice. We will continue seeking a donor that is our race. We do get POC gentlemen who swipe right on us but will graciously pass up on their very generous offer now that we are better informed from all of your shared experiences. Thank you to everyone who recognizes that we were coming from a good place of genuine concern.

Going off treatment for conception and pregnancy

Hello!! My spouse and I are about to start our journey to parenthood. However that means I will have to go off several of my medications including the two I take for hair loss (spiro and oral minoxidil).

So my questions are for those who had successfully regrown hair but had to stop treatment to be pregnant. What did you do to manage your hair loss while pregnant? Were you able to go back on the treatment you had before pregnancy and how soon after giving birth were you able to do that? Any helpful tips and tricks you came across that were successful?

Just throwing out there that I won’t be breast feeding due to me needing to go back on certain medications as soon as possible after birth.

Thanks in advance! Hope everyone is having a good summer.

Progress pictures!

A little over two years on spironolactone and a little over one year on oral minoxidil.

I couldn’t be happier with my results. I am so much more confident now. I was brave enough to chop my hair to about an inch above my shoulders.

Two things I wished I’d known before starting this journey:

-The “dread shed” should be called the “there is hope shed” if your hair is shedding after starting minoxidil that means it’s working! All that hair lost will come back stronger and healthier

-Since oral minoxidil is not localized it does not discern where the hair that needs hair growth is. It causes all of your body hair to grow in longer and thicker. I am doing a lot more maintenance on my body and face hair. But to me it’s worth it to be an extra hairy girl with thick pretty hair.

It’s been a long journey full of tears and stress and uncomfy feelings. But I would do it all again if I have to.

Motherhood and MS

I am going to start this out by saying do not recommend adoption. I am fully aware of that option.

My spouse and I are currently at the very early stages of family planning. The plan is for at home insemination with a known donor (lesbian couple). My spouse is unable to conceive and carry a pregnancy.

But here comes the gnawing ethical dilemma of having MS and possibly passing it on to my child. Especially since I am fourth generation diagnosed (grandmothers, mother, aunt, and me). I want nothing more in this life than to experience pregnancy and motherhood with a child I created. However what kind of mother would I be if I conceived knowing full well that my child might inherit the predispositions that lead to MS. I have a friend that says that not having a child because of the possibility of disability is eugenics. I agreed with my friend, though I still worry about my child living with this disease and blaming me for having it. I know I don’t blame my mother or my grandmother for having it. But my child would be their own person with their own opinions.

I’m interested in hearing from MS fighters who are also mothers, it would be especially helpful to hear from mothers whose children also have MS. Thanks in advance.

Edit: can we please stop arguing the semantics of heredity versus genetic versus some third option. That’s not what this post was about.
