I have been watching the Gran Hotel TV show, which takes place in 1906 in Spain and I am puzzled by hearing the owner of the hotel telling the staff "Puede retirarte" which to me seems like mixing the tu and usted cases together. I checked the subtitles and multiple sources to make sure that I am not miss hearing "Puede" instead of "Puedes". I tried looking it up and didn't find any explanation, and ChatGPT doesn't understand this either. Anybody has any explanation so that I stop losing my mind over this? xD
