Intercity Newcastle Trains
Anyone who’s travelled the Sydney to Newcastle train line early in the morning especially around 5 or 6am has probably come across homeless people using the overnight and early morning intercity services between Newcastle and Central as a place to sleep. Unfortunately, some carriages can become pretty unpleasant, with strong smells making them difficult to sit in.
I’m honestly in two minds about it. On one hand, I’m glad people have somewhere safe, dry and relatively warm to spend the night. On the other hand, public transport probably shouldn’t be a substitute for proper housing and support services, and I do think Sydney Trains need to do more to address the situation.
But what do you do?? Remove them from the trains?
Curious to hear everyone else’s thoughts on it
