Happy how it turned out! Yamaha CR2020+CA1000 with Boston Acoustics A400

I think I’ll hold on to this setup for the rest of my life, these were meant to be together, Boston Acoustics A400 4ohms bi-amped with the lows driven by the CR2020 and highs by the CA1000 on class A at all times, possible with a set of fans underneath on both units and controlled by a thermostat (that little square screen near the iPad on top left corner).

Custom light beige fabric really making the A400’s blend well with the space, ah, and in case you’re wondering I’ve added an RBG led strip to the CR2000, can pick any color.

Both amps are touching each other on purpose, to grow the idea of making a custom single wood case to make it look like it’s all a single unit.

How about just a giant YAMAHA CRCA20201000 with a custom single wood case from end to end?

I’m probably upsetting a lot of purists out there, but hear me out, why not just a giant Yamaha bi-amping the Boston Acoustics 400’s, aesthetically….I like it, I’ll let arranged like that for some time, if it’s a permanent go, I’ll start making a giant custom wood case with the original vent grills on top, it will look like a single unit 😁

And before you give me crap about the polk S35, I know they suck as a center speaker alone, but here…it’s not the case, I’m running phantom center with the main towers + the S35 with a speaker switch to recenter the dialog for someone not seated in the sweet spot 😉

This is a blend of Stereo two channel and home theater 9.1

https://www.tradespherecapitals.com - LEGIT OR NOT?

So I recently expressed interest in starting with a trading mentorship program, but I have been doing my due diligence to research first. The way it works is I'm supposed to fund one platform first called "Kraken", and then from kraken, the funds are converted to ETH to fund tradespherecapitals, where the mentorship would take place.

Based on a quick google search about tradespherecapitals, let's say the AI write up wasn't great about them:

  • Scam Allegations: TradeSphereCapitals has generated multiple complaints regarding fake investment returns.
  • Withdrawal Issues: Users have reported being unable to withdraw their funds from the platform.
  • Suspicious Activity: The platform is linked to "withdrawal failures" and is categorized by some users as a "cryptoscam".
  • Warning: It is strongly advised to stay cautious and avoid unverified investment opportunities with this entity.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with all this?

Yamaha CA-1000 temperature test, fan comparison

Thought I’d share some of my findings, originally from simply getting to know more about my equipment, and interested in confirming if adding fans to this unit could make any difference. I got a simple thermometer with the sensor located at the hottest spot I could identity, placed two sensors for left and right. Ran a couple of test in different modes, specially interacting Class A (notorious for reaching extreme temperatures) with the fans. As someone pointed online, by placing the fans this close from the heatsink, I could run into the problem of melting the blades! So what I did was directing the airflow from outside to in, at all times, this way is always keeping the heat away.

-Ambient temp: 65.5F
-All units in Fahrenheit

No wood case
No fans
No speakers
Normal operation: 77.4 / 79.2
CLASS A: 138.7 / 140.5

With wood case
No fans
No speakers
Normal operation: 93.6 / 91.6
Class A: 151.3 / 153

With wood case
Quad fans airflow out to in
No speakers
Normal operation: 77.7 / 77.4
CLASS A: 105.1 / 106.9

With wood case
Quad fans airflow out to in
8 ohms speakers
Normal operation: 83.8 / 87.4
CLASS A: 115.2 / 115.7

Boston Acoustic A400 (4ohms) replacing passive crossover by active one, possible?

I know I'll get a lot of heat with this idea, but this is coming from pure curiosity to be able to hear this setup as I move up the vintage gear ladder.

Since 10/10 times a vintage speaker comes around at a good price, re-caping is suggested anyways, so if decide to spend money re-capping the A400, why not looking into fully replacing the crossover by an active one, so I can experience true bi-amping? goal is to use a Yamaha CR 2020 for the lows and Yamaha CA 1000 for the highs.

it would be great if you could contribute with links leading to active crossover options, since I have no clue where to start looking into this.

Questions I have:

-Onces it's replaced, the speaker can ONLY be used with two amplifiers, or the two individual chains (lows and highs) can be merged back into one pair of wires for a normal connection to a single amp as option?

thanks

$7 blackout curtain from the thrift store…stripped away the blackout part only leaving the thin fabric, enough to cover 2 sets of speakers! ….and yes, it’s very much acoustically transparent, boy that looks WAY better than just a boring OEM black!

Finally found the flagship A400 to join as the matching set with the same fabric upgrade. I’ll have to ship the speakers from another state, wish me luck on that, fingers crossed 🤞

So as I'm stepping up my speaker game ever since I've acquired a CR 2020, I have a 4 ohms speakers on my watch, but I do like listening to A+B in my listening area, being the second set of speakers 8 ohms.

Sure I can find this answer online, its a straight up NO, but in my case, I have done an upgrade to the unit by adding a pair of computer fans, so my question is:

Overheating is the only probable issue doing such combination 8+4 ohms, or the ~2.67-ohm load per channel resulting impedance can cause specific issues beyond heat management?

if its only thermal, the fans should take care of it? I was also thinking about installing a thermometer with a wire sensor in the heart of the hottest spot inside the unit to keep track of it while I try this. Maybe all this is only an issue at crazy high volumes, levels that become inconvenient to my ears anyways? thanks
