Is This Field Feasible For Me?

Hey guys.

I’m (26M) a compliance specialist working in the environmental field. This was my first job coming out of university and I work at a top environmental engineering firm. I don’t have a technical degree (environmental science), but I have a lot of experience working with engineers and tech platforms.

I realized pretty quickly that environmental consulting only gets harder with more responsibilities and that the pay doesn’t scale as well as it does in other industries. I’d like to make the jump to a climate tech company and work as a sales engineer. I’ve read the FAQ for this subreddit but I would just appreciate more input as to how to make myself a potential candidate before I get too deep in my career.

EDIT: posted and realized i didnt explain why I want to transition to an SE. I love being a technical expert at what I do. I make it my mission to understand whatever systems I’m using and I’m a naturally good teacher and am able to express myself in an understandable way. I just think I’d be good at handling demos and RFPs.

Thanks for any input!
