Help my Cat ID her ants!

Hi!

My cat and I love observing our ants and their colonies, one of her jobs is to supervise test tube transfers.

We recently found two new queens in California, but we are finding it difficult to accurately identify them to be able to feed and care for them properly.

One is orange and black, found in a pool in Palm Springs. I believe she is a Pogonomyrmex californicus? So she is semi-claustral?

And the black one, I found in a parking lot in Lake Tahoe. I believe she is a type of formica ?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thank you!

Found two ants. Need help.

Hi! I found two queen ants in California recently. The Orange/red one (Pogonomyrmex californicus?) I found in a pool in Palm springs and the darker one (camponotus modoc?) I found at a parking lot in Lake Tahoe specifically Crystal Bay. I intend to help them establish a colony.

Would love to have some ID help so I can properly care for them, as a thank you I included a picture of my cat observing a test tube transfer.

Thank you!
