One of my queens (Prenolepis nitens) died the other day and started forming this mold around her. The consistency is strange and I was wondering whether it could be some kind of parasitism (not sure if it makes sense) also because I noted that, when she was alive, her abdomen was significantly larger than the one of the other queens I have.
The ant was removed from the test tube as soon as she died and at the time no mold was around her, also this is not cotton (even if it does look like cotton)
