Is there any practical reason to own physical gold notes over a gold ETF?

I’ve kept my gold exposure almost entirely in ETFs. It just made sense its easy to buy and easy to sell.

But a while ago, I decided to try something I had only seen online before, physical gold notes. I started carrying a few with me when I traveled within the US, just to test the idea of using them in small, everyday situations.

They actually helped me in practical, situational ways. In small peer-to-peer exchanges and informal situations, it felt easier to use something tangible instead of explaining digital holdings or transferring funds, when I didn’t want to rely on apps or banking access in the moment.
