Official software update fried my dad’s Moto Edge 50 Pro camera/motherboard. Service center wants ₹23,000
Hey everyone,

I’m making this post out of sheer frustration, but also to warn others and see how many of you are dealing with the exact same issue on the Edge 50 series.

I’ve been a loyal Motorola fan for years. I’ve personally owned the old G3, G5s Plus and currently use a G45. Because of my great experience with the brand, I trusted them enough to buy a Moto Edge 50 Pro for my dad. It has been kept in pristine condition—zero physical drops, zero water exposure.

A little while ago, the phone took an official OTA software update. Immediately after, a slow nightmare started:
The front selfie camera completely stopped opening.
Over the next few days, Pro Mode and video recording features on the back camera started throwing resource errors and crashing.
Finally, the main rear camera died entirely. It’s just a blank black screen across all apps.

Today, I went to an authorized Motorola service center. They casually diagnosed it as a "motherboard issue" and slapped me with a ₹23,000 repair quote! That is practically the price of a brand new phone. They claimed they "haven't seen this issue before," which is an outright lie to get consumers to pay up.
After digging deep into the Lenovo forums and Reddit, it is completely obvious that recent updates (especially the massive OS rollouts) are causing severe CPU overheating during installation. This thermal stress is literally popping the weak solder joints that connect the camera lines to the motherboard on the Edge 50 series.

Let’s gather under this thread if you are facing the same update-induced hardware failures and find some help?
