On Megablasts

Megablasts

About the Megablasts: they’re specific. Definitely not an "all-rounder."

The Upper

The upper is super breathable, flexible, thin, and narrow (a bit too narrow, actually). I’ve had to fiddle with the lacing more than any other shoe I own. It has that "racing" feel to it.

The Sole & Stability

The sole is flexible but soft. The heel feels wobbly and unstable; this shoe is **not** for heel strikers. The geometry of the sole tilts the foot forward. After a few minutes of running, you get used to it, and then...

The Performance

It’s a rocket. The shoe positions your leg in a way that makes it incredibly easy to push off. Today, I finally understood how the knees and calves are supposed to work. Pure brilliance.

The Speed Factor

The catch is that the magic only starts at a pace of **5:20 – 5:30 min/km [8:35 – 8:51 min/mile]**, and it really picks up around **4:30 min/km [7:15 min/mile]**. That’s when the shoe gains its bounce and starts pushing you forward. Basically, my shoes are in better shape than my lungs.

The Verdict:

I completely failed to run my planned kilometer at the pace I’m targeting for my upcomming half marathon. With a wild grin on my face, I just kept flying way too fast. Wonderful shoe for the tempo runs and races if you dont like plated shoes. Slower runners however will not use it to the full extent.

Hi there,

I am in my 40s, running for 18 months now 3-4 times a week. Just finished a 12 week base building phase and ramped up to 50km a week. My oryginal plan was to sign up for a marathon in October and run a 24 week training block.

Plans change. I took the opportunity to move to a beatuliful, hilly place and started enjoiyng trail running.

Current consideration: mantain 50-60k a week while running mosly on hills as the 2nd 12 week base building plan in a row and push my marathon plan by several week.

Question is - does the extended, 24 week, base phase make sense or it's time to include more workouts?
