Tried pushing myself at 5k
Pushed myself during a supposedly 5k easy run to check what is my limit. Started running only around late february 2026 as a 40 year old 83kg (lost weight from 2025 at 120kg) male who mindlessly signed up for a half marathon on 7th june. Currently on runna HM plan.
I think I might have pushed too hard because my max heart rate towards the end of the run was above 190bpm when i tried to max out my pace to the finish line. Talked to a few people and they said that was too high for my age. Is it normal for people to hit that heart rate during race day? Or is there anyway to slow down my heart rate during high intensity runs?
Edit1: My easy run is usually between 7:30 - 8:30min/km
Edit2: Just remembered I did a 13km long run the day before, so maybe my body is still fatigued when I push myself on the 5k...
