Coworker relative passed, did I say the right thing?

It was sort of spontaneous when they appeared in the office. I never really talk but I had to say something and I sort of blurted out "how are you holding up?" when I was leaving the office and it was just us two. It has been a week since their relative has passed. Did I say the right thing? I just said the first thing that came to mind. I am emotionally numb due to years with social anxiety, so I can't really express myself. Now I'm feeling guilty and ruminating because I don't know if I said the right thing.
