Self Installation
Hi!
I am about to move into a new apartment in Baltimore, MD. When I go to sign up online for internet service, a self install option is referenced, but when I step through the sign up pages, I cannot get past the appointment page for a $100 professional installation.
I understand Comcast wanting to make money, but I would think that it would be more important to get people signed up, to start the money flowing to Comcast where there is no incremental cost to having another user, than to insist on grabbing $100 for someone to plug in a box and flip a switch that can surely be done from a central location. Wiring a location is one thing, but sticking a cable into an outlet and charging $100 for it is quite another when the customer is ready, willing and able to do that.
This is a large apartment building. I don't mind paying for service, but I do mind being taken advantage of as Comcast collects installation fees every time someone moves into an apartment at the same location.
The building is fully wired, and the apartment is surely ready to go without requiring a visit from a technician. I am unable to call the local store to see whether or not they can help me bypass this fee, because Comcast does not make that information publicly available, but I can tell you that I am annoyed enough to be researching 5G internet alternatives to paying for an installation I am capable of doing myself.
Hopefully, you can help or provide some guidance. I am perfectly capable of picking up a router at a local Xfinity store and plugging it into a wall. Many thanks!!
