Hey fellas!

Platform(s):

IOS, and i think specifically IPAD, but i can be mistaken about IPAD only

Genre:

Close to tower defence but not really. More like just base defence

Estimated year of release:

I had to have played it at a period from 2010 to 2015, but it could have been released from 2005 to 2010

Graphics/art style:

Artistically zombies looked close to PvZ art style, but slightly more realistic for a more scary look. That goes for the overall look too. Somewhat cartoonish, but with realistic details.

2D, sideview. Not sure what this camera angle called, but it’s the same as, for example, "Kingdom Two Crowns" or original "Super Mario Bros".

Notable characters:

Different types of zombies like fast, armoured and HUGE Leviathan zombie definitely most memorable, because his frame took almost the whole screen

Notable gameplay mechanics:

Basically you control a shooter’s aim in the middle of a screen to protect your house from waves of zombies and you could use bonus cards like grenades, better weapons and your windmill’s blades that took off and spin through the whole horde

Other details:

It had two mods: waves and creative. In a creative you could spawn any zombie you like and give yourself any weapons. Waves were levels with increasing difficulty

Unfortunately, I can’t provide any screenshots, only description. But I can consider drawing it in photoshop or generating.

So overall description:

In the main menu you choose your game mode: waves or creative

Waves are staged levels with increasing difficulty. I think there was about 30 of them. You couldn’t play the next level until you completed the previous one.

The whole level looked just like a countryside with your base in the middle of the screen and two pathways on left and right. Your base consisted of a house, a tower (where you shoot from) and a windmill tower. For most levels zombies only came from one side, but came from both sides on difficult levels.

Gameplay wise you had to control your aim with your finger to shoot approaching zombies and strategically use your bonus cards for better weapons (I distinctively remember grenade launcher, grenades and sniper rifle with huge damage) and windmill card. Using windmill card made the actual blades of it take off the tower and go spinning through all the zombies on screen multiple times and was actually very high damage, but i think it could only be used once per level. Aiming for the head was the most effective way and I remember an animation of a rolling zombie head if you hit it.

First levels of waves start off with easy to kill slow zombies, later introducing faster and more spongy ones. The game also loved to create segments like putting big spongy leviathan on one side of your screen and a horde of fast ones on the other side so you’re never relaxed. But you could shoot at any direction, 360 degrees at any point, including the zombies you didn’t manage to kill right below you. The zombies you missed started to take off your health, but i don’t remember any red health bars. I think it was more visual destruction of your house until it’s game over. And of course, if a giant leviathan makes it to your house, it’s over immediately.

This huge fella was actually one of the most distinguished parts of the game for me. He was bigger than your whole base three times, 30 floors high, moved very slow, but also took a whole arsenal to kill. I liked to spawn him 10 times at creative mode and just taking him out with grenade launcher.

Creative mode was basically just it. You can spawn any zombie at any amount, you can use any weapons and you were invincible. So you just had fun by spawning hordes and taking them out with cool visuals.

Overall the game had a survival horror vibe with somewhat scary visuals, but mixed it with fun gameplay. I don’t recall any story or plot, I believe it was strictly gameplay, but I can be mistaken at some details. I still remember it as one of the most fun zombie games I ever played and I tried to find it on app store, but it just wasn’t there so i assume it was deleted from it at some point. Now, years later I don’t even have an icon screenshot or name of the game. If you suggest going through all downloaded apps on my apple account, unfortunately, it is not possible anymore

I hope there is someone who can recognise this gem of the past with me on this subreddit. If there is a more suitable subreddit/forum/youtube channel for this case I would really love to know. I thank everyone in advance for participation. ❤️
