2011 Subaru forester oil leak
I recently bought a used 2011 Subaru forester (110 k miles on it) only to realize a few months later that it has an oil burning issue.
I know I should have done a better due diligence before buying, but I’m need guidance on how to deal with it. The oil level keeps reducing with no visible sign of a leak on the floor. The tubes and cable surrounding the engine have a thin oily layer.
I took it to a mechanic who said they couldn’t find where the leak was coming from. I later checked on the internet and it looks like the 2011 forester is one of the worst models to buy, known for its poor engine design which causes recurring oil leaks.
Since the leak might be due to poor engine design, Is the oil leak actually repairable for a reasonable cost ?
I was thinking about adding one of the « engine stop leak » products to seal it internally , but I’m not sure it’s a good idea. Any guidance on how to deal with this situation would be greatly appreciated.
