What was the biggest mistake that slowed down your progress?

Hello everyone. I'm an adult woman and I've been working out at the gym for half a year, watching my diet, and trying to build muscle (I'm in a surplus) but honestly I don't see much progress. I mean, my body has become a bit more defined, but I've only gained +1 cm in my hips during this time, and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. It would be interesting to hear the opinions of people who have been working out for a long time, possibly fitness trainers. My goal is to increase my glutes and make them more firm.
