PSA: Equinox EV SiriusXM Stuck on a channel? GM Tuner Service Error? Here is the Real Fix
PSA for Equinox EV Owners: SiriusXM Won’t Change Channels? Stuck on 80s on 8? “GM Tuner Service” Error? Here’s the REAL Fix.
A bunch of us are running into the same problem on the Equinox EV:
- SiriusXM gets stuck on 80s on 8
- Won’t switch to 70s on 7 or any other channel
- Long delay when trying to change channels
- Message pops up referencing GM Tuner Service
- Sometimes says you need to “open an app”
- Steering wheel buttons stop responding
- Dealer claims it’s “fixed,” but it isn’t
This is NOT a SiriusXM subscription issue.
This is NOT a phone issue.
This is NOT a user error.
This is a GM backend problem with the vehicle’s embedded modem and SiriusXM 360L authentication.
Here’s what’s actually happening and how to fix it.
---
✅ What’s Really Broken: GM Tuner Service + SiriusXM 360L Authentication
The Equinox EV uses SiriusXM 360L, which blends satellite radio with streaming.
To work correctly, the radio must authenticate through the car’s embedded OnStar modem.
When the modem session breaks or fails to authenticate:
- The GM Tuner Service crashes
- The radio can’t complete channel changes
- It gets stuck on the last working channel
- It throws the “GM Tuner Service” message
- It may tell you to “open an app”
- It routes you to EV Concierge when you press OnStar
Dealers cannot fix this because they don’t have access to the backend systems that control modem provisioning.

🔍 How to Confirm You Have This Issue
Go into:
Settings → System → About → Connected Services
If the modem is failing, you’ll be missing things like:
- IMEI
- ICCID
- LTE/5G status
- Signal strength
- OnStar connection state
You can also test SiriusXM streaming by trying:
“Tune to channel 703.”
703 is a streaming‑only channel.
If it won’t play, your modem isn’t authenticated.

🛠️ The ONLY Fix: Contact EV Concierge (Not Regular OnStar)
Press the blue OnStar button and say:
“EV Concierge.”
When connected, tell them:
“My GM Tuner Service is failing. SiriusXM 360L won’t change channels and my modem info is missing. Please re‑provision my modem and refresh my SiriusXM 360L services.”
This is the exact wording they understand.
They will:
- Re‑provision your embedded modem
- Refresh your SiriusXM 360L authorization
- Reset your GM Tuner Service backend session
Then they’ll tell you to:
- Turn the car off
- Open the driver door
- Wait 2–5 minutes
- Restart
After that, channel changes work instantly again.
---
🎯 Why the Dealer Didn’t Fix It
Dealers can:
- Reboot the radio
- Update infotainment software
But they cannot:
- Re‑provision the modem
- Refresh SiriusXM 360L authentication
- Fix GM Tuner Service backend errors
Only EV Concierge has access to those systems.

👍 If your Equinox EV is stuck on a channel, this is the fix.
This issue is becoming common, and most owners don’t know the cause.
If your SiriusXM won’t change channels, this is almost certainly why.
