OA Lang Ba Ako for thinking spanking a teenage daughter is weird?
I (26F) and my bf (26M) had a conversation about kung tama ba mamalo ng bata. Wala pa kaming anak, pero given na we're at the age wherein we are financially ready, we often have conversations about parenting and marriage. I don't agree with physical punishment in general, and he said he does when there are extreme situations. I mostly understood everything he told me (even though I dont agree with it) except for one, which is a situation wherein teenager na anak namin. Sa example ko, I asked him what if umuwi yung 14 Y.O daughter namin drunk, nang walang kasama. Sabi niya, deserve daw ng anak namin mapalo for that case. I completely agree on punishing the child (grounding), pero not physically. I was also weirded out, because we're talking about a daughter who has gone through puberty (sa pwet niya pa rin daw kasi papaluin). I raised this to him, and he said that he was disappointed—that I was the one making it weird. He said his sister was spanked at that age too. Nagulat pa rin ako kasi kung totoo nga sinabi niya, I didn't know others thought it is normal at that age
Dagdag ko lang, my father was emotionally and verbally abusive to me and my sister noon and if he also disciplined us in that way AT THAT AGE I would actually cut off all contact with him.
