There’s a teacher retention problem vs teacher shortage

I saw a district introduce a program where they help students in teacher preparation programs get teaching jobs. I love that but I hope they realize the problem isn’t qualified teachers but retaining teachers. I think there’s more than enough people who’d love to teach but choose a different career or leave teaching due to the awful conditions.

I hate how much time is wasted the last couple of weeks. School should end before Memorial Day and start after Labor Day

Even when I try to do academics the last week kids are so checked out and there’s so many school filler activities.

Remember when kids weren’t chronically absent, it wasn’t our fault and they didn’t have to do crazy incentives (parties, food, etc) just to show up?

The principal in Ferris Bueller would have a heart attack with how many kids miss months of school.

Our school requires months of data before any action is taken of a student going to an alternate placement, leaning online etc (that’s an if action is taken). Many meetings are held with several teachers saying rhe same kids are unruly, disruptive and nothing is working. Its so sad they aren’t expelled or suspended due to admin not wanting to lose funding.
