What would be the next step up from a Dayton RS180?
I have a three way DIY studio monitor build that I’ve been revising for years, it’s an active Minidsp with a Bliesma T25B tweeter in a 3D printed waveguide, crossed over at 1600hz with the Dayton RS180 reaching down to about 150hz where the Dayton RS315HF takes over.
I think it sounds stellar but I’m always looking for ways to upgrade (within budget) and I feel like my potential bottleneck might be the mid. Since this is solely for my work I’m looking for neutrality, transparency, and mix translation. Low IMD is much more important than excursion. The Purifi is enticing but the price and lead time is off putting. The SEAs Excel line looks good but I worry it’s not that much different than the Dayton.
I’m partial to aluminum cones but I could be convinced otherwise. I haven’t used or heard too many quality drivers so I’m wondering if it’s worth the upgrade since the price jump is so high. Thanks everyone for any input
