Pallative care for FISS in 13 y/o cat
In a bit of a dilemma with 13 y/o female kitty. She has FISS (feline injection site sarcoma) and the tumor has ruptured her skin. Per our vets advice, we have been doing palliative care and just trying to manage her pain w prescribed gabapentin.
However, she has stopped eating her meds reliably voluntarily, and has had some runny fecals and mostly sleeps when on medication. It's hard because otherwise, she is her alert and bright self and enjoys sitting in the sun, cuddling etc, just moving slower overall.
We hope to do at home euthanasia when its time, but going into memorial day weekend, we're unsure if that will be able to happen this weekend with the vets availability due to the holiday. Reached out to vet yesterday who does in-home, called again today and did not recieve reply. Definitely battling the whole "rather a week too early than a week too late" in terms of pain and suffering, but she absolutely despises going in to the vet and we are trying to avoid that at all costs for when it's her time. Any thoughts on our situation appreciated!
