Was I in the wrong here?
So I feel like enough time has passed where I can ask about this story. So I'm not a forever DM but I am the only one in my group who wants to play DND and will Dm. I've only been Dming for the past like 3 years.
A while ago I joined a campaign that I found through DND Beyonds forums. It was a pay to play campaign and the guy charged $10 a session. We were running the Waterdeep: Dungeon of the mad mage campaign. I was also at the same time coming up with a campaign for my friends to run for them. While playing the campaign (we only half explored the first floor) I really liked the maps and how big they were and wanted to use some of them for my campaign just repurpose them. So I bought the book on DND beyond so I could use the maps. I never read the book. To this day I actually still haven't read the book.
So one of the days after one of the sessions someone in the campaign asked how my building of the other campaign was going. I gave them an update and told them about me using a few of the maps from this campaign. They joked around telling me that I could find all the secrets for the party. (Now I Wana be clear I had access to this book as did everyone else already cause he had content sharing on I simply bought the book so I could use the maps) I told them I didn't look at the book at all and I just got it for the maps.
Around the time that the next session came around I paid my $10 (he usually asked for payment the day before) but the session got cancelled due to some personal matters I was told. When the next week rolled around I showed up but was kicked out cause I didn't pay my $10 for the session. I told him that I paid last week but since we didn't have that I figured it should have carried over but the DM didn't see it that way. (At this point I should have left I feel like, but I wanted to play so I didn't.) I paid the $10 and did the session. During that session we were facing a boss and the boss seemed to put all the attack focus only on me. Even tho I wasn't the one doing all the damage. My character was almost killed off this session I just managed to save myself with a nat 20 on a death save. The next week rolled around I paid my $10 again but when I showed up I was kicked out of the discord. So I messaged the DM I was told he didn't like that I bought the book we were using for the campaign and he tried to give my character a "fair" send off by having him die in battle but I was just stubborn. I had asked for a refund and of course he refused.
I don't believe I was in the wrong at all for what I did but I'm open to hearing people's thoughts about it and if you have any questions about it I'll try my best to answer too.
