I am an aspiring writer and I have a character who is part Native American and African. He is from a fantasy world though where Africa and North America don’t exist- so it’s more of a design thing.
Anyway- I created a name for the character that being Ochro. Prior to recently I thought I made the word up. But I did google the word out of curiosity to find out Ochro is another word of Okra which is a stereotypical black food.
I can’t tell if I’m being overly cautious or if I really should change his name. I don’t think that I, as someone who isn’t black, can determine if this name is offensive or not.
So do yall think I should change his name or is it fine to keep it?
