PS2 Laser Repair/Replacement (SCHP-50001)
Hey all,
I was playing Rockband 2 with my roommates the other day when the game just suddenly stopped working... turns out that my PS2 now doesn't read ANY dual-layer DVD disc NOR does it read the black PS1 CDs.
Now, I know that this is definitely the laser giving out (as I have already tried to clean it with alcohol), however, there has been a lot of discourse I've seen online about whether or not I should just replace it or re-calibrate it (PMAP, adjusting the height of the laser, or the pots).
I'm not the most knowledgable person when it comes to tech (especially earlier tech), so I was wondering if it would be wise to try to calibrate it (using any of the aforementioned methods) to see if it'll work, just skip troubleshooting and try to replace it, or to just avoid the hassle and soft mod it to play games off of an HDD. I'm not entirely keen on using an HDD (just because there is no other feeling than popping a disc in and playing it natively), however, I'm not adverse to it since I love these older games!
If anyone has any clue please let me know! Any advice is appreciated!
Edit: Also, if replacement IS the way to go, would anyone know a reputable source to buy a replacement laser?
