Current job state, suggestions would be helpful
I currently work at an IT outsourcing company in Nepal. The pay is comparatively good, and I’ve been with the company for nearly 2 years, starting as an intern.
The main issue is the work-life balance. Since most of the work involves overseas clients, I often have evening client calls as well. On average, my schedule stretches from around 9 AM to 9 PM, including breaks in between. Even though there are gaps during the day, it still feels like my entire day revolves around work.
Lately, I’ve started feeling burned out. I barely have time for myself, learning new things, hobbies, fitness, family, or even proper rest. I’m also planning to start my Master’s degree soon, which makes me question whether this lifestyle is sustainable long term.
My father also has his own business, and my original plan was to work in IT for around 5–6 years, gain experience, and eventually join his business. But now I’m reconsidering things and trying to figure out the best path forward.
Right now, I’m considering three options:
A. Switch to another IT company with a better work-life balance
Continue building my career in IT
Risk: better pay often comes with similar pressure in outsourcing companies
Q: how is the current job market?
B. Leave the company and join my father’s business
Potentially more flexibility and long-term stability
Opportunity to grow the family business early
Risk: stepping away from IT too soon and possibly regretting it later
C. Leave the current company, take a short break/travel, then switch jobs
Gives time to recover mentally from burnout
Could return to IT with a healthier mindset
Risk: temporary career gap and uncertainty, unstable job market
At this stage, I feel like I value work-life balance, personal growth, and mental sustainability more than just salary alone.
TL;DR:
Good pay, but 9-to-9 work schedule in IT outsourcing is burning me out. Planning for a Master’s degree and reconsidering long-term career goals. Unsure whether to switch companies, join family business, or take a break before moving forward.
