Should I change to PPO when planning a pregnancy this year?
Hi guys, I’m 30^(th) and plan to have 1st baby this year. I need to pick one of two choices, as a new plan starts from July 2026 to June 2027. I heard that we should choose a PPO plan when planning a pregnancy. Should I switch to PPO since I always choose HSA before? And should I use HSA money for pregnancy expenses?
Here is the summary of both plans:
HSA:
- Employer contributes $2000 each year (half in July, half in January),I may also contribute $2,400 to the HSA
- Annual deductible = $2,500/person
- Out-of-pocket maximum = $5000/person
- Primary care, Special visits are "20% after deductible."
- Urgent care DED then pay 20%, ER $200 + DED then pay 20%
- Outpatient service, physical, Chiro DED then pay 20%
- Prescription drug: Preferred brand and non-preferred DED then pay 20%
- Total benefit cost $855.29
PPO:
- Annual Deductible: $1,500/person
- out-of-pocket maximum = $4000/person
- Primary care $25 copay, Special Visit $50 Copay, Outpatient Mental Health $25 co
- Urgent care $50 copay, ER $200 + DED then pay 20%
- Outpatient service, physical, Chiro $50 copay
- Prescription drug: Preferred brand $10 copay (30 days)/ $20 (90 days), nonpreferred brand $30 copay / $60 copay
- Total benefit cost $1,050.13
Thank you.
