My region in British Columbia was proud to see a Canadian Blood Services whole blood donor centre open in 1998, and very disappointed to see it closed in 2015.

In two years, our lobby group has received 4,250 signatures of support for our petition to bring a plasma donor centre to the region (completely voluntary donation). We have also received support from 33 organizations including local governments, First Nations, health providers, and elected representatives at the provincial and federal levels.

We're now appealing for businesses and organizations to commit to supporting the centre in principle, but also asking their staff and members to donate at a regional centre in the future.

National Blood Donor Week 2026: would your group and its members support a future blood donor centre?

As part of National Blood Donor Week, we're trying to demonstrate that Northern BC has the community support needed for a future Canadian Blood Services donor centre.

Over the past two years, more than 4,250 people have signed our petition and 33 organizations have formally endorsed bringing blood donation back to the region.

Our next step is asking businesses, non-profits, local governments, unions, service clubs, and other community groups to indicate whether they'd be willing to encourage blood and plasma donation among their staff and members if a donor centre were established here.

This isn't a financial commitment. We're simply trying to demonstrate that Northern BC has a strong, stable donor base ready to support a future centre.

If your organization would be interested in being counted, you can learn more here: www.ourbloodcounts.com/partners

Happy to answer any questions about the campaign.
