Is work slow only in the unions, or is non-union construction slow too?

How’s it going,

I’m a hardworking young guy in Ontario with renovation experience, looking to build a long-term career in the trades.

For those currently working in construction: what trades or types of construction are staying steady/busy right now? Is non-union work any better, or is the slowdown affecting everyone?

Open to union or non-union. Commercial, industrial, infrastructure, service work, etc. — I’m open to anything with good long-term potential.

Any insight or personal experience is appreciated!

Job Prospects

Hello Everyone,

As the title suggests I’m curious to ask what type of work is staying steady as of the current moment. I’m well aware of the slow down in certain construction sectors, but I want to enroll in a field where there is a demand for young men to join.

For reference, I’m a 21 and have a background doing decorative concrete for residential homes. so I’m no stranger to honest day at work. All opinions and thoughts are welcome ;)

How’s the roofing trade in Ontario?

For those currently in the trade or running a roofing business, how is the market right now? Is roofing still a good trade to get into, especially for someone looking to eventually start their own business?

Would appreciate any honest insight on demand, competition, earning potential, and the overall outlook in Ontario, Canada.

Is Masonry a Good Trade To Get Into Right Now?

Hello everyone,

As the title suggests I‘m searching for opinions on whether brick masonry is a good choice right now based on demand, work availability, and pay.

For reference, I’m a concreter by trade and have been doing it throughout my time in university. I’m graduating next semester and thinking about what’s next, as degrees right now are dime a dozen and I find it enjoyable working with my hands instead. So I’m planning to go masonry school in Mississauga after graduation.

I’m young (21) and would appreciate any advice from veterans or masons that have been in the game.

Thank you.

How’s the Market For Plumbers?

I want to ask the plumbers if the gta of hows the plumbing trade is holding up right now? where is the work and money that most plumbers are leaving on the table?

Side note, I'm sure many people in construction are hearing the same complaints “work is slow” “no money in construction“.

But I think thats bs and most of those tradies that are in a bad spot are due to their lack of skill and work ethic. For example, I got a job in concrete pretty easily and work was never slow. Given it’s an undesirable trade but i see that as opportunity.
