First time making a spoon!

First time making a spoon!

Carved this spoon from a piece of apple wood i had laying around. Turns out it had been laying around a little too long because it had fully dried and resisted its spoonification considerably...

The charing is from an attempt at burning out the scoopy part of the spoon before giving up on that and getting the right tool for the job.

Im looking foreward to hearing your comments, feedback and questions!

Super easy strop

Made this strop for my dad today and thought you all might appreciate it!

The base for this is a beech paint stirstick from the hardware store, I just cut it to length, rounded the ends and sanded it a bit.

The leather is a piece of vegtan leather that got glued on with contact glue. I used a linseed oil finish on the wood.

I wanted to share this because of how quickly i was able to make this with the stirstick as a base, you could easily make one of these in less than an hour (excluding oil drying time).

I hope you like it and im happy to hear your thoughts and suggestions!

Newbie follow up post (also made a root hook!)

10 days ago i posted my very first attempt at a bonsai here.

I got some great advice, some friendly guidance, and some harsh but nessesary truthes, and i wanted to say thanks to everyone who took the time to help out a newbie!

I tried my best to apply all that wisdom, ordered some aluminium wire and did a full rewiring. Turns out, using the correct wire massively helps.

I also got it into a larger pot which now sits on the edge of the balcony where it gets full sun (just took out the insert for the picture). The rootbale stayed mostly untouched to not disturb the plant any more than nessesary, i just loosened it up a tiny bit on the outside where some roots started circling. Soil is a mix of gardening soil, sand, and perlite with a layer of gravel underneath to help with drainage. Its probably not ideal, but after the very heavy rainfall we got tonight its wet but not completely soggy so i'll take it as a win for now.

Since the repotting its growing like crazy. I tried to spread out the foliage branches a little so all the green bits get sun but did allmost no further pruning yet.

Im pretty happy with how things are going, but of course im allways open to further advice and suggestions!

Bonus pic: My new selfmade root hook. I dont need one yet, but it was a fun quick toolmaking project. If anyone wants to make their own, just get a giant nail at a hardware store and a premade file handle that fits it. Saw off the head of the nail, bend it, then epoxy it into the handle. Sand the handle and apply linseed oil. Have fun!

First ever Bonsai, how bad is it?

About a week ago I decided to get my first bonsai. Several youtube videos and a trip to the hardware store later I was the proud owner of a juniper bush, which then got turned into what you can see in this picture. Its pretty rough, right now I'm just hoping it survives and maybe gets a little denser foliage over the coming months. I'm also planning on getting a new pot.

I'm absolutely hyped about my lil tree and ready for your roasts and suggestions!
