Hot water draining in my basement when showering
Tonight, while my wife was showering I was in basement and could hear water draining. Found it coming from this small line going into the same drain as our heat pump condensate drain to the floor.
We have been in this house for almost 10 years and I can’t say I’ve ever heard this before. I always assumed this line was for something unrelated but the water was warm coming out, as if it went up stairs and back down. Once she was done in the shower I checked it again and no water coming out.
Tomorrow I’ll try some of the other hot water lines upstairs to see if the same thing is happening. I can’t imagine where this would be coming from. The hot water heater is in the same room I don’t see anything else coming off of the main line before it goes up the wall.
Our power bills have recently been higher than normal which is now making sense (electric hot water).
Any speculation on why this would happen??
