The 102 gun HMS Royal James, flagship of Admiral Montagu, about to be burned by Dutch Fireships at the 1672 Battle of Solebay. Not to be confused with the HMS Royal James, also lost to Dutch Fireships during the Medway Raid in 1667.

If I had a nickel for everything an HMS Royal James was lost to Dutch fireships, Id have 2 nickels, which is a little weird. Admiral Montagu died with his ship.

Robinson Family Gravesite

Gravesite of Alexander Robinson, Chicago's last Potawatomi chief. Yes this is in Chicago city limits. Much of the family's land is now part of the Forest Preserves on the far NW side.

Adama versus Thrawn in peer fleet combat?

2 evenly matched fleets in terms of technology and numbers, with FTL capable capital ships and escorts, plus strikecraft. One is commanded by Bill "Husker" Adama, the other by Grand Admiral Thrawn. Who is winning?

Was checking out LIDAR images of a river I like to kayak when I noticed this interesting feature

So I was looking at lidar images of a river I like to paddle when I noticed this feature. You'll notice the river makes a horseshoe bend then turns south. The narrowest point on the bend is Class IV rapids, then the river turns south and enters a gorge that is a couple hundred meters long.. However the LIDAR shows the gorge actually extends to the north past the river. Is this an old path the river once took? Did this gorge predates the current river? This is north central Wisconsin on am exposed Batholith in an area that was under the glaciers. I apologize in advance if this is more suited for a hydrology subreddit.
