Currently watching Blade Runner..

Oh my god. I have completely fallen back in love with movies. Especially these gorgeous 4k remasters of older films. They look like they could have been shot today, whilst keeping their distinct style of the times.

The lighting, the miniature megastructures, Rachael. I was skeptical at first but after watching a couple of films (apocalypse now, the thing), it feels like I’m watching them again for the first time with fresh eyes. Very, very happy I stumbled across this sub, otherwise 4k would have never really crossed my mind. Thank you for bringing the love of home movies back for me.

Has this been mentioned before?

Pardon the pedantic observation, but I noticed this small mistake while watching Eyes Wide Shut.

I'm aware the film was shot mostly in the UK, so I was keeping an eye out for road markings. I noticed in the taxi scene driving to the mansion, we can see these yield signs on the left hand side of the road, despite being set in New York and driving on the right.

Given Kubrick's acute attention to detail, do you think this is a shot he would have noticed and kept out? Or something that was posthumously edited in? I'm not familiar with the edit history, just that Kubrick died shortly after presenting his final cut to Warner Bros and the nature of the final cut being a thing of mystery. But I thought it was worth pointing out since I couldn't find any other reference to it online.

I’ve joined the club

List some of your favourite 4k blu rays! (Or some to avoid? I want to watch Terminator 2 but have heard Camerons 4k blu rays aren’t good, or am I wrong? )

Recently switched from standard tv audio to an old HT-MT300 the family had lying around. Whilst it’s an obvious upgrade to the tv, the subwoofer and mid levels are noticeably not great.

I’d ideally like to get something more surround sound for movies and gaming. Even if I need to put up some shelves behind the bed for the extra speakers.

Completely ignorant to sound systems and the technical details but would appreciate some advice for the setup that I have. Budget would be under €1000, although have read the Samsung q series is maybe the best bang for buck. Open to any recommendations! Thanks
