I will be pairing this with my relatively new 55 TCL QM7k. Any tips on best settings for this player and that tv? Also which hd input would it be best to plug it into? I don't have a sound system yet but that's next.

Time to give the PS5 a rest.

Just a sample of a recent shipment I received

A friend of mine passed away a few months ago and his physical media collection was given to me. This is just one of hundreds of rarities I got, but this was a holy grail. He also had the Arrow UK store variant of Silence of the Lambs and many, many others.

Need some Noir recommendations!

I’ve been diving into this genre lately. I haven’t really seen anything.

The technology to make 8K discs is already a reality. Folio Discs are the true successor to UHD Blu-ray discs. They have 1TB of storage. Started out as $5 per disc in 2022, it's now down to $3 with a goal of lowering it down further to $1. It's sad we'll probably never see them adopt it.

Here's the specifications page of the company that makes them: https://foliophotonics.com/product

Per the news, they're also ramping up production and looking to make 10TB discs for future use: https://www.ohiotechnews.com/folio-raises-8m-scale-optical-archive-storage/

Sony, Microsoft, the movie industry -- want to eliminate physical media for control. Not because they don't see a future in it. They keep saying they don't wanna invest in R&D to develop a successor. But you don't have to. Someone else already did it for you!

Are there certain types/genres of movies that are better suited for 4K than Blu Ray?

For example, a scene from the movie Waiting... showed up on YouTube. I thought, there is probably no reason to get this movie on 4K, right? Then you have something like Dune where there's something to be gained by watching in 4K.

Bought the shelf and all but 3 of these within the last 2 weeks. Just getting in to collecting physical movies.

Figures are there temporarily so i don’t have a lot of dead space.

I do not recommend the new 11-Film Harry Potter & Fantastic Beats bundle…

First off, I blame myself for not looking carefully enough at the specs. The bundle just includes the 4K discs, which I realize implies zero special features since they’re normally on the Blu-Rays, but DAMN! It sucks that this has not a single extra or bonus feature.

I got this for my girlfriend blindly and regret it deeply. Special features are half of what makes physical media worth it for us.

Not blaming WB/Gruv/whatever, just myself for not reading too closely.

My humble 4k and Legacy format collection. Organized loosely by mood. And yes, I have a working VCR!

Figured I’ve lurked long enough it was my turn to post my humble 4k and legacy format collection. It’s addicting now that I have a full home theater setup. Good Dolby Atmos mixes are some of my favorite to watch now. Bonus: I do have a working VCR though after my old 32” LCD bit the dust a couple years ago I need to get another legacy TV for my VHS tapes since they look like garbage on modern TVs.

Collection is loosely organized by movies I’d consider watching in similar moods, with my more intense movies and legacy collection on the top shelf and out of reach of my kids. Resident Evil Blu-rays actually live in a storage box since even the covers are graphic for my kids. Star Wars VHS on the right shelf are pre-Special Edition and as about as close to theater original format as you can get until Disney hopefully re-releases the theatrical edition next year (fingers crossed).

Thanks for checking out the post!

Everything good must come to an end… concluding this amazing trilogy today 🌵.

So far it’s been true. Each movie seems to get better. A Fistful of Dollars was amazing. But For a Few Dollars More took everything from the first movie and x10. It introduced Lee Van Cleef as Mortimer and his character was badass. The score is iconic and it also has hints of eeriness anytime Indio would open his watch. So far im loving tf outta this trilogy.

Suggestion for first 4K purchase (from Criterion sale)?

I'm between:

  • Sorcerer
  • Days of Heaven
  • Pee-wee's Big Adventure
  • Paris, Texas
  • Mulholland Drive
  • Network

Any favorites on 4k? These are all great movies so I know I can't go wrong...

Is the new reissue of Jurassic Park worth getting?

I've been curious to getting the movie on 4K give its my second favorite Spielberg film. And given this new transfer has Dolby Vision and Atmos I wonder if it's worth it
