Arc B580 Passthrough: GPU works great in CachyOS guest, but completely missing HDMI audio?

Hey everyone,

I'm setting up a cloud gaming VM using an Intel Arc B580 passed through to a CachyOS guest.

The GPU itself is working perfectly, but I cannot get any audio over HDMI. In the CachyOS system settings/audio mixer, there are absolutely no output devices listed.

The weird part: If I run lspci -nnk inside the CachyOS VM, both the Intel graphics controller and the companion audio controller show up as connected PCIe devices. The hardware is definitely reaching the guest, but the OS just isn't recognizing the audio side as a functional sound card.

Has anyone run into this with Battlemage on Linux guests? Is there a specific kernel parameter, driver quirk, or PipeWire configuration I'm missing to make the audio initialize? Thanks!

What operating system are you all running for your cloud gaming VMs?

Hey everyone, I am setting up a dedicated cloud gaming VM to stream to my other devices. I mainly play single player games and titles without strict kernel level anti cheat, so Linux is fully on the table. I am torn between Windows and Linux for the guest OS and would love some input on a few things: OS Choice: Is it worth dealing with Windows overhead and updates for native DirectX, or does a lightweight Linux VM with Proton and Sunshine perform better with lower latency? Hypervisor: Whats the smoothest experience for GPU passthrough (Proxmox, native KVM QEMU, etc.)? Headless Setup: Do I need a physical HDMI dummy plug, or are virtual display drivers reliable enough for Sunshine and Moonlight? Audio and Inputs: Whats the cleanest way to handle virtual audio and controller passthrough without introducing lag? If you are running a similar setup, what does your stack look like and what pitfalls should I avoid? Thanks!
