Bald men look better with beards

I received a call today from Work and Income's number 0800 559 009 at 7:11pm. The caller asked me if I was [real name], to which I said yes, they then repeated the exact same question and I said yes, again. Then they asked me for my email, and I thought something was fishy because they are calling outside of their operating hours (7am - 6pm), so I hung up. I know caller ID can be spoofed too, which is partly why I hung up.

I tried calling back the same number but got an automated messaged that it was outside of operating hours and to call back later. I don't know, just felt strange, I have no correspondence from them in MyMSD, so I don't understand why I would be receiving a phone call in the first place.

Was this likely some type of scam, or am I just being a little too paranoid?
