I was going to name my fictional story character Synovia, but then I found out what it actually means. Can I still use it?
So I'm writing this fantasy story about traveling around the world and all that fun stuff, and one of the main stars of a later chapter is going to be named Synovia. A name that I thought was very beautiful.
I don't even know where I found it, but it was most likely from a name list online. I usually like to look up the meaning behind all my character names, so I recently did that for her, and behold... It's what they call the fluids that lubricate your joints.
I thought about renaming her after making this discovery, but I honestly find it hard to imagine her with any other name now. The concept of this character has existed in my mind for well over two years now. I was thinking about having the main character call her Via for short. I'm also planning on killing her off, but that's beyond the point here.
Would you change the name of your character if you found out it had a meaning like this all along and you never knew? Or would you keep it, and try not to think about how it's associated with that thing?
