How does magic affect disability in your world?

If your answer is just disabilities don’t exist because magic, then please don’t comment, it’s fine if you’re not interested in focusing on that, but I’m looking for something that captures the imagination a bit more.

So basically what I mean is, disability aids, unique ways disabilities interact with your magic system, if your setting has healing magic what are the flaws that keep it from just curing all disabilities, or disabilities that are unique to your setting, here are some of my examples.

A common thing for mages in my setting is using familiars similar to guide dogs, but using magic they can telepathically communicate with them, it’s not the same as seeing through their eyes, It’s more like them telepathically telling you what they see, this can make it kinda difficult if the animal doesn’t have the right terminology to describe something or forget them, but it’s still very useful.

The gods of my setting are color coded, but when a colorblind person sees it the colors of the gods adjust to the range of colors they see, this also extends to blind people or races that rely more on smell, a blind person will hear a faint yet noticeable sound whenever a gods magic is being used, or a faint smell if they’re a species that relies more on scent.

In my the world there is healing magic but it’s not perfect. For example, it can’t cure genetic illnesses since it relies on the genome to know what to do, and if someone is traumatized during an injury, healing magic may be weakened or outright ineffective, so if someone loses a limb, the healing magic won’t work many also intentionally curse their weapons to forcibly cause this.

When a person is exposed to magic prematurely, or is exposed to a lot of magic, they have a chance to develop Magical dis-regulation syndrome, a mental and physical illness, symptoms can include, struggling to control magic, loss of inhibition and impulse control, moonstone blood clots, cancer, a higher chance of developing other mental illnesses, and/or a variety of other symptoms depending on what form of magic they have, super strength gives you hyper-mobility, illusion gives you hallucinations etc. and if the condition is not properly treated, it could result in you turning into a witch, basically permanently loosing any and self control and becoming a caricature of yourself, there are two main ways to deal with it, suppressing the magic or learning to control it, most people do a combination of the two, they wear things like silver to suppress the magic in their everyday lives, while also practicing and training their magic to better control it.

Thanks for reading. I’m excited to see what other people comment.

I feel like the series is so commonly focused on trainer and Pokémon relationships, and only ever explore the Pokemon on Pokemon relationships when the trainers aren’t there.

I’ll start I like to imagine myself as a ghost type trainer since that’s my favorite type, Chandelure is my ace, I imagine their personality being somewhat sardonic and chill, they’re the type to tell you that your idea is stupid, but still not stop you because they want to see the fireworks.

Jellicent, she’s a mischief maker, she always like to pull pranks some more harmful than others, she’s probably constantly getting herself into trouble, which I think Chandelure finds amusing they always tell her something’s a bad idea, but only so they can make fun of her when she ends up doing it anyway, they never actually try to stop her.

Gourgeist, the resident diva of the team, she’s very proud of her talent and dosen’t like it when others insult her, I think she’d have a heated rivalry with Chandelure since she would want to be the ace, I can already imagine how annoyed she constantly gets by Chandelure’s mild reaction to everything, as for Frilish, I think they’d go back-and-forth like an older sister to a younger sister, she’s constantly getting Frilish to do things, and sometimes she does them, but sometimes she intentionally messes it up for fun.

Golurk, he’s feircely loyal and protective, I imagine they have kind of a paladin vibe to them, honor and all that, Chandelure’s sarcasm and insults are constantly going over his head, but he’s still the one Chandy likes the best, Golurk and Jellicent’s dynamic is definitely older brother trying to control their younger sibling, Gourgeist treats him like a butler, since he’s so eager to please and follow orders.

Yamask, the nerd of the group, he was a Pokemon scientist in his past life, so he’s constantly sharing facts he learned from his human days, he’s Chandelure’s second favorite though Chandy would never admit it he does find a lot of yamask’s fact interesting even if not to the same degree, Yamask is the main target of Jellicent’s pranks since he’s so easily flustered, Gourgeist usually ropes him into her performances and schemes, even though she’s not particularly interested in what he knows she does know it’s still useful, and will even give credit where it’s due, as long as he doesn’t outshine her, Yamask and Golurk are the closest members of the team, since Golurk is the only one who finds what Yamask has to say genuinely interesting on its own and is willing to express it.

Hisuian Zoroark, she is very protective, and family oriented the main parental figure of the group, while Golurk tries to keep everyone in check, he’s to much of a push over, Zoroark is willing to actually make them stop when they go to far, it’s probably for the best that she’s in charge and not Golurk because he tends to be pretty puritanical view on a lot of things, Chandelure has an unspoken respect for her, and they chill together, Zoroark like I said is the main one to punish and stop Frilish when she goes to far, but is also the most nurturing towards her, Gourgeist confides in her a lot since she’s always willing to listen making them pretty close, her dynamic with Golurk is basically your average fiery mother push over father dynamic, she dosen’t find Yamask super interesting but tries to listen anyway, since she knows how important it is to him.

Thats I imagine their dynamic, dysfunctional but ultimately loving, i’m curious to see what other people’s responses are.
