This Stuff Legit Saved Me

Hi all, 31F here! I developed hormonal acne around age 18 that just never went away…I was diagnosed with PMDD last year and after measuring my hormones decided to pursue a hormonal option for acne treatment after trying every topical under the sun. I’ve officially been on 100mg (50 in the morning and 50 at night) for three months now and my skin has NEVER looked better. First pictures from July, second pictures from today. Just wanting to celebrate - I truly thought I would never ever be free of it!

Waiting for the Other Shoe

Hi all!

I’ve been on spiro (100 mg) since the beginning of July! I’m seeing so much improvement, but I’m so worried my acne is going to come back 😭 I hate the thought of being on it forever, especially since I do want to become pregnant in the next five years and I know I’ll have to stop taking it then. Can anyone offer any assurance? Any success stories of your acne staying gone when you titrated off of it?

Spironolactane and PMDD?

Okay this is a lot but I will try to keep it as simple as possible. Here are the basics:

I’m a 31 year old woman who has had acne since I was 18. I was recently diagnosed with PMDD, which explains a lot of my other symptoms and definitely explains the hormonal pattern of my acne. When that diagnosis was made, we measured my hormones and found that my testosterone is on the lower end. I take progesterone to manage PMDD symptoms.

I had my first dermatology appointment today and the first thing she prescribed was spironilactane. Starting off with 50mg/day for a week and then increasing to 100mg/day.

I immediately contacted my pcp to check in with her because a medication that’s whole purpose is to disrupt hormone production seems like it could be problematic. She is unfortunately on vacation (she deserves it!!!!) and won’t be able to answer until she returns.

Has anyone had experience with this combination?
