Not the review I was hoping to make

I was really excited to try these tins, they were part of my Chicago haul earlier this summer. My son (in culinary school up in NY) and I had a plan for fresh pasta and lemon cream sauce for a fancy home dinner when he got home for summer break. Was definitely underwhelmed when I opened the tins, at $40ea I was hoping for chunkier pieces. Worth noting this is my first tinned crab, and it’s pretty good, but for $80 I’ll just buy some king crab next time 😂 dinner was fresh spinach pasta with lemon cream sauce and spider crab, garnished with parm and fresh basil. My kitchen looks like a bomb went off, but we had a great time cooking together, so it was money well spent but will be spent more wisely next time. Am now slightly nervous about the Cole’s snow crab tin in my pantry, it was also kinda pricey😅

Tuesday Night Tinner

When left to my own devices for dinner, 98% of the time I will choose a tin. 😆 This is one from my Chicago haul, Samare’s small scallops in Galician sauce. Heated up with the sauce of the tin, capers, Kalamata olive paste, butter, parm, and pasta water. Scallops are soft, meaty, and practically fell apart while cooking. Definitely fishy, so if that’s an issue for you, this might not be your tin. $14 makes it a splurge, but well worth it. Will purchase again. Highly recommend.

Insanely delicious

Picked this tin up at Mercado Central when I was in NY a couple weeks ago. Fried up in the butter from the tin, added pasta, parm, fresh parsley, and finished with smoked Maldon. Early lunch is feeling fancier than I intended, and my fishy heart is singing. 10/10 will purchase the next time I see it (🤞🏻Vegas). I also picked up the sea salt variety of this tin and I’m very excited for it. I think it was $10ish? Worth every penny.

Fish recs pleeease!!

Last summer trip before I gotta go back to the grind, we’re going to Vegas on Saturday for 6 days, I’ll have plenty of time to venture out. Michael’s Gourmet Pantry is already on my radar, and I’m trying to figure out if Tinned Fishionado has a proper shop. TIA!! ❤️🐟

Finally! A tin with some proper heat!

Tin from my Chicago haul, I’m so happy! The flavor and spice level are legit, with enough heat that I won’t just inhale the whole thing, which is usually the case 😂 made a lil snack tray: triscuits, Gouda and goat cheeses, pickles/onion/olives, and some veg.

The price point makes it a splurge tin, but this is one I will definitely buy again. Now I gotta come up with something to do with the leftover oil….

Bedtime snack

Snackish before bedtime, this is a better choice than ice cream, right? 😂 Although ice cream might still be on the table. KO’s Mediterranean offerings are a staple for me. 10pm means feral cat mode, I couldn’t even be bothered to reach for the triscuits

Dinner after weekend travels

I was starving after flying home (TX) from NY today, threw on a pot of rice, and decided which of the tins I brought home was dinner. Lol, I thought I was an experienced tinnie, but sometimes a tin checks you. 😆 Not at all what I was expecting, but so delicious. That said, this is a tin for pasta for 4. Whole ass tin on a cup of rice, lemon zest, and some blistered shishitos.

Latest fishy adventures, a city in two parts

Hey Tinnies!! I was in NYC this weekend, and made two stops for souvenirs. Pic 1 is from The Fantastic World of the Portuguese Sardine in Times Square. Review: crazy cute place, total tourist trap, pricey AF, but all the lil freebies (bags, stickers, chopsticks) were super fun. Probably won’t go again unless the overpriced lobster is crazy good 😂 Pic 2 is my haul from Mercado Central NYC in Brooklyn, this was the 3rd Ave location. Review: I will be back every time I’m in the city, and will also check out the other location. Tiny shop, but so well curated - the fish selection was amazing, prices were honestly really good, and the other Spanish foodie items were on point. They also had some packaged sardines in their refrigerator section, but I wasn’t confident in keeping them cold while traveling. 10/10 recommend. And looook at my new sardine purse pouch! 🤩 not shown is the adorable lil chocolate sardines I already gave to my bf.

Eating the Japanese anchovies for dinner tonight, I’ll make a separate post so y’all can see em. ❤️🐟

My final summer trip this year is Vegas next month, def looking for recs, I’m sure there’s fishies to be found!

Guess I just buy tins for souvenirs now. Not mad.

Went down to the gulf this week to visit mom, and came home thru Austin. Couple of HEBs and a 99 Ranch. Sticky notes from mom cuz she gets me.

Tin haul from Chicago

All from Totto’s Market, which was only a 10min walk from my hotel. And all are tins I haven’t tried before. The La Narval were the least pricey at $7-8 per tin, almost all the others were $12-13, and then there’s the spider crab…major vaca splurge at $40ea. The olives were $10. I’ll post pics/reviews as these get eaten, the crab is for fresh pasta and lemon cream sauce made by my son when he’s home from culinary school for summer break in August. The shop was very well curated, and I had to stop myself from going any crazier than I did. They also had a lemon anchovy butter that was a Churn/Fishwife collab - I really wanted it, but didn’t think it would travel well. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in downtown Chicago, especially if bougie foodie items are your jam.

Shops for tins in Chicago

Hey TF friends!! I’m going to Chicago for the weekend, and I need some recs for places that have tins outside the regular grocery store stuff. I’m staying near Grant Park, so relatively close would be preferred, but I’m down to venture out for a great spot. Deens, mack, sammie, and things that come out of tiny shells are all of interest. TIA!! ✨🫶🏻❤️🐟🦪

Haha, I might need to slow my roll on the current mindset of “you should grab something every time you’re at the store/every time you make an Amazon order.” 🤣❤️🐟
