Type 1 diabetics on Reta

So I just want any other type 1's out there to know a couple things.

  1. be very careful in how much you titrate up, because if you get to the point to where you are barely eating at all then you could go into STARVATION KETOACIDOSIS.

for me I was at 3mg a week and thought I was doing okay but nope, ketones went up I went into that and it feels very much like DKA but without the high sugars.

You have to EAT. I know it sounds simple but you have to. It's very easy to just forget to when you don't think about food or if you're hungry or not.

  1. obviously it also increases insulin sensitivity, and i was very careful with that and adjusted my pump accordingly.

It's just the starvation thing got me. I was also going through something else at the time and so I couldn't eat it was four days and then I ended up in the ER.

Reta has been good for me, I just wanted to put this out there in case other diabetics missed this or just didn't research.
