Was told BoA doesn't do product changes AFTER being signed up for a new card

I came in and said I was interested in a product change of my credit card. I have a Bankamericard and wanted to change to the Custom card. I was asked to wait and then met with another employee. I said I was there for a product change. Told her what I have and what I wanted to change to.

She helps me go through the process on my mobile app. After we finished, I asked what I do with the old card. She told me to keep it and just use it sometimes. I explained that my whole point in coming in was to do a product change. I already have 3 credit cards, the last thing I wanted was an additional one. She told me they do not offer product changes on credit cards.

I've read on here that they do offer them, so I'm now confused and frustrated, and I have a new card I don't want.

Edit: I called customer service and the first rep not only did the product change for me, they also transferred me to another rep to cancel the new card (reason - poor customer experience). Lesson learned...I will call for any complex transactions in the future.
