4R70W grenaded itself. 4 neutrals. But somehow Neutral now moves the car...?
My trans died, I'm not too surprised about it, as it was on its last legs, for a while. Died after a long 1 hour drive home from work. I'm more curious about the state that it failed in. For context, I am actually talking about a '98 Mark VIII LSC. I know this is the wrong sub, but the car is semi-rare and the forums/subreddit activity/information is pretty sparse. It's loosely similar, drivetrain-wise, to a Marauder.
I've killed AOD's before, but I've never seen a 4r70w go from having 4 gears, to none, in a span of 5 minutes. D, 1, 2, and R do not move the car. I cannot rev past 2k RPM, in park, and for some reason, neutral now moves the car forward. It's not a shift cable issue, because the car recognizes that it's in neutral, on the dash.
What do you think is FUBAR'd here? Torque converter?
