Is the reason metro isn’t 24 hour only because of homelessness?

Genuine question. Me and my friend were talking and wondering why the metro doesn’t just run hourly all through the night. We have 24 hour buses it honestly makes no sense to me why at least the red line, silver line, or yellow line don’t run 24 hours.

If you have a red eye flight and get in super late, or you have a concert downtown, or your Amtrak train gets in past midnight you’re just screwed and end up paying 80 dollars for an uber.

Only thing me and my friend could come up with was: the sound of the train at night being loud, fear of people sleeping on the metro, and maybe cost of the operators (but we have 24 hour buses?)
