Corn Lily Study II (4x5 HP5+, 110mm Symmar XL, Chamonix 45F-2)

This plant had tipped over, permitting this unusual viewing angle, which I photographed in harder light than normal. This image felt organic to me but also totally abstracted from the subject matter. It can feel a contradictory to travel a long way to photograph something and then make images that aren't representative of it.

Anyway, I was trying to figure out what this photograph reminded me of, then the other day I was watching a movie and realized it's the space alien from the movie Nope, haha

Rocks, water, and a little bit of time. Very much the "gas station at night on Cinestill" of the large format photography scene (8x10 HP5+, Nikon 450mm, Chamonix Alpinist X)

📸 Photographed January 2026, Olympic National Park. 8x10" negative, 18" lens, no filter, f/16, 1/4 sec, N+3 development.
