Working on improving the Jagglé system

Over the last year I've been working on making and selling the Jagglé system of daylight developing cassettes. It is a system whereby the film holder for 1 sheet can be placed on top of our special developing tray to allow you to develop without needing to take the film out of the system in a darkroom for developing. You pull the second dark slide and the sheet falls into the developing tray.

https://preview.redd.it/wcixwc0z8h2h1.jpg?width=4896&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29acf37cf32b0498dc96891c1080a60e444629f8

Initially this was created to be part of a wider daylight enlarger system, with the purpose of being able to print without a darkroom setup.
I adapted it to large format however, and many people have created incredible projects this way. I am frankly astounded by the variety of applications people have found for the system. From roadtrips to boat rides to street portraits people have been using the system for all sorts of processes: RA-4 reversal, bnw-reversal, bnw negative etc. One of the interesting aspects in my opinion is that the system is quite modular. You can change the inserts in the film holder to swap between 4x5 film size and 4x6 (or 10x15) paper size for example

Now 1 year into selling the cassettes I am working on a V2 where I aim to improve the system in terms of robustness, both in terms of manufacturing and use; as well as expanding the range.

Currently I only have 4x5-graflok and 4x5 Graflex (slotted) for paper and film size.
On my wish list for release are:

  • definitely 4x5 plates, many people have been asking for this since the beginning
    • In Graflok and Graflex mount, maybe more....?
  • 5x7 film/paper/plates
  • A contact printing version of the film holder

But I have also been send dimensional drawings for older style European 13x18 film holders, and I am reasonably confident I can make that work within the 5x7 line-up. And I have been asked for a solution for the Mamiya RB-67 and the Rolleiflex SL- style backs.

So I guess my question is; do you have other ideas of what I can do with this system? Is there something you would like to see?

Sinar-P 4x5: What did I just inherit?

I have done quite a bit of 35mm and medium format photography over the last couple decades. I just inherited this Sinar-P 4x5 from a friend. I think it was used to take product photography for a jewelry company. Mind helping me figure out what I have? I've been looking at getting into large format photography, although probably with something a bit more portable than this beast. It looks like it was made to be used with a digital back, which I don't think I have. Any help is appreciated!

What's going on with this lens?

New to large format and just got a Schneider Kreuznach Symmar S 120mm F/5.6 Lens to go along with the 150mm f/5.6 that came with the camera.

Something weird is happening when I try and use the new 120mm - it shows up on the ground glass as tighter than the 150mm. And the bellows have to be almost fully extended to focus at infinity. On top of all that, the image appears far softer than I would expect.

Is this lens not designed for 4x5? The ebay listing said it was. Or is something off with the rear element? Any help would be appreciated.

First image of the ground glass is from the 150mm(looks great), second is from the 120mm.

Film Stocks

So far on my LF journey I’ve shot Foma 100, Delta 100 and TXP 320. But I’ve actually never shot FP4 or HP5 in any format. I will definitely get some HP5 but what are the pros in Fp4 over D100. I’d love to lock down a stock or two. I know experimenting is the way but why would people on here go one way or the other. Kodak shits me with 10 packs and is too expensive so I’ll stick with Ilford for my B&W.

What’s going on here?

I’ve found this lens for sale on eBay and it’s piqued my curiosity. It’s engraved “Blitz Improved Portrait f5” but it seemingly has no designated focal length. Anybody recognize this lens? It seems way too small to be a true portrait lens… There’s no brand name on it and my own research attempts to ID it have yielded nothing. Anyone reckon it’s worth buying?

Color negative or slide?

With say Kodak for example E100 and color negative films are pretty comparable in price.

Which do you choose and why?

I’ve never shot color on LF and would love to try. I shoot on 4x5

Who here owns a 3D printer? I WANT ONE 😭

Okay, after visiting that 3D printed camera link & looking at the Bambu Lab A1 ($300 + accessories), I am seriously tempted to get into just making a 4x5 instead! Is this crazy talk?? I've never printed anything in my life, but I do consider myself on the more prosumer side of technical knowledge...ugh, and just the thought of building parts that I might want to try seems incredible! And why is there no mini technical field system that's 6x9 (Graflok 23) ?? Would love any input or suggestions from makers or buyers of printed parts. Thanks! ☝️🤓📈

EDIT: I love that there are so many here that both fans of the old analogue ways AND new technology enthusiasts! All of it is super exciting.
