Bus glitch Glenburnie PS Road Safety for kids in countryside

Bus glitch Glenburnie PS Road Safety for kids in countryside

Students in Countryside shouldnt be walking home along the gravel shoulder of high traffic arterial roads like Battersea/Unity where the school board had overlooked a bus glitch with families at Glenburnie PS until I posted this video on Facebook. Most parents come and pick their kids up of course but not every parent can always do that. As your trustee for Countryside Kingscourt-Rideau & Williamsville I will push Tri-Board to treat ALL arterial roads without sidewalks as automatic hazard zones and Ill partner with our new Countryside Councillor to improve the Gleburnie Public School parking lot drop-off/pick-up situation
I will also be an ardent supporter of the Active and Safe School Travel Charter which should actually mean something in our rural schools and doesnt right now. And I will advocate for a Public Parent and Community Transparency Dashboard so that when families raise concerns about transportation or anything else its tracked publicly until its fixed.

Families in Countryside or anywhere shouldnt have to wait for manual intervention for the system to work. We need to be proactive, not reactive. I promise to work hard every day listening and fighting for every family in our ward whether you live in Rideau Heights or Glenburnie.
If you have any questions, concerns, ideas for our school board you want to see, or just want to chat you can get in touch with me anytime

Classrooms not Consultants

Every night that Im out campaigning I hear from parents who are fighting for years to get an Educational Assistant assigned to their child, only to have that EA spread across multiple classrooms and even different schools.

I also hear from teachers and speech therapists who are exhausted by the constant turnover.

In the 2025-2026 budget LDSB allocated $1,325,000 for short term EAs funded by the boards accumulated surplus. These jobs arent permanent in the budget. We’re using temporary money to hire temporary staff, for a permanent crisis. EAs need job security, and students need stable support.

We need to stop pouring money into top heavy external administration and start prioritizing permanent, recurring budget positions for front-line EA’s and Special Education teachers.

If im elected I’ll advocate for redirecting board spending away from top heavy administration to hire more EA’s and special education teachers to support our struggling students and our teachers who are being forced to act as frontline mental health workers with no support!

Touring Food Bank

Today I had the privilege to tour the Partners in Mission Food Bank
I’m very grateful for the chance to learn more on the ground about the vital work they do, supporting more than 4400 households and more than 2997 children across Kingston & Loyalist Township and connecting them to various other services in our community.

Food insecurity has a huge impact on learning outcomes and our student’s mental health and I am committed to being a trustee who listens and learns from our community partners.

Please help Feed the People at Council meeting Tuesday

Threads of Hope Kingston Public Statement from Facebook:

We need you.

Feed the People in Belle Park is at risk.

On Tuesday, August 11, we need our community to stand together at City Hall and ask Kingston City Council to protect this essential program, secure the funding it needs, and approve the trailer required to continue operating.

If you believe compassion belongs in Kingston, we need you there.

This decision is happening now. Your presence matters.

Together, our voices can make the difference.

Please attend, share this post, and invite others to stand with us. If you have any questions call or text Pam Gray at 613-384-5101.

———
This is a critical program that has served over 219,000 meals. Today they served 150 people a new record, the line was already there when volunteers arrived. They are there 7 days a week no matter what. Many unhoused folks living in Belle Park area are immobile, workplace injuries, mentally ill, brain injuries, substance use addiction. The city needs to wake up. The Ontario Human Rights Commission has contacted the Mayor and Council on FTP’s behalf and got no response.

United way backpack fundraiser

The United Way KFLA is running their yearly backpack fundraiser. Please donate school supplies or money if you can or share the poster. Last year they helped distribute more than 1800 backpacks to kids in our community. As the cost of living continues to escalate out of control its really important to make sure every kid has the supplies they need to learn effectively. They also will need volunteers to help organize supplies for distribution to the kids. You can drop off stuff at the 6 locations

Great night canvassing

I had another great evening in Kingscourt talking to parents about their concerns and ideas for Limestone District School Board. Too many families feel when they have a problem it’s just buried in the void of bureaucracy, meanwhile our classrooms are chaos. I will advocate for redirecting board spending away from top heavy administration towards hiring more permanent EA’s and Special Education teachers to support our students and teachers who are being forced to be frontline mental health workers. Our schools should always be run in Kingston

Our schools should always be accountable to our community, not to an unelected supervisor in Toronto.

Decisions that impact students and families every day should be made by people who actually live here, understand our community, and are directly accountable to voters.

Thats why we’ve had local school boards trustees since 1816. They give parents, students, and residents local voices in our education system. Replacing that with top down control risks disconnecting decisions from the diverse, unique realities students and families face every day across the province.

Despite it’s name, the Ford government’s recent Putting Student Achievement First Act doesn’t put students first. It strips power from our local trustees, and shifts it to unelected officials in Toronto.

The bill renames directors of education as “CEOs” and gives them control over budgets and collective bargaining, removing that authority from trustees who are accountable to you. These CEOs report to the Minister of Education, not to local communities. The Ontario Public School Boards’ Association requested consultation on these changes months ago, and the Minister never responded.

In school boards the Ministry has placed under provincial supervision, powerful unelected bureaucrats earning up to $350,000 a year have already changed bell times, shredded class size limits, and gutted special education funding while ignoring parents. Take parent Mandep Kendola in Brampton. When she and other parents raised concerns about mandatory e-learning being pushed at their children’s school, principals told them they couldn’t provide any information about what was happening.

We all want strong, transparent, and effective school that put students and families first, but the solution isn’t to remove local accountability and accessibility. All the pressure from above only makes it more important to strengthen local democracy in our school boards.

I’m running for the Limestone District School Board to build student power and make the board more responsive and engaged in the community. I’d love to know what issues matter most to your family when it comes to how our school board is run, student supports, and family involvement in the decisions that impact them every day. Send me a message or go to https://www.chrislogstrup.ca/home, I'd love to hear from you.
