Front Collision automatic braking--overly sensitive

2025 CX5.

Driving along a 2-lane city street. Vehicle in front of me slows down, goes completely on the (paved) road shoulder, intending to turn right into a strip mall. Their vehicle is completely outside the lane of travel, and entirely on the road shoulder.

ALAS, "technology" erroneously detects an imminent collision and automatically applies FULL braking, engaging ABS. Now this braking was only for ~0.5 seconds, once the vehicle turned right into the strip mall. But it was (1) not commanded by the driver, (2) unsafe braking because my lane of travel was completely empty, and (3) dangerous for me and anyone behind me as it was unnecessary.

I've already chosen the least sensitive setting. I believe this is a false positive and flaw in Mazda's system. I guess it's federal regulation for the car to apply its brakes on its own, but at least do it right. (or try to)
