Said goodbye to my Nissan Frontier and got a 2026 CX-5!

Wanted something with more tech and safety features. Decided between a CR-V and CX-5. Went with the better option of course.

Edit: I got the Preferred Trim. Forgot to mention.

2024 cx5 question

Proud owner of a new to me 2024 Mazda cx5. Love it however I noticed a whistle noise when I accelerate. Only happens at 20-25mph. I’ve noticed others speak of this on other model years including the 25. Anyone know if this is normal? Hope I don’t regret trading from a Toyota 🥲😅

2018 cx-5 touring 120k miles perfect carfax

Im sleeping on it and calling them in the morning. Its been serviced by both owners literally every 5k (oil change, inspection etc). First owner at a mazda dealership, 2nd one a another dealership (the person was an employee). I need a car asap and I think I can get out from under this pretty quick (add $200/mo on the principle).

I’m looking for a less ugly bug screen

I often end up hanging out in my car and I’d also like to use it as a sleeping spot during road trips, so I’m looking for something that will let me keep the windows down without bugs getting in.

The only kind I’ve ever really seen are these hideous ones that can be seen on the outside of the car too 🥴 But I’m wondering if there’s something more modern and clean, like a magnetic screen that fits perfectly in the window hole or something.

Does anyone have anything like this? I’m also curious about the best sunshades. I read something about the rearview mirror sensors degrading over time if they have too much heat exposure and that it’s best to get a certain type of sunshade to avoid this, but I can’t remember the details!

Wooshing liquid sound on passenger side dash when I accelerate from a full stop

I sometimes hear a wooshing or sloshing liquid sound only when I accelerate from a full stop (at a light or cold out the garage)

It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side dash.

Coolant levels are steady and full. Engine heat does not ever really fluctuate. It tops out at 200 and all seems pretty normal there.

I’m calling the dealership tomorrow to see what they think.

I’m at a loss.

I asked my girlfriend to step on the gas for me; the engine speed reached over 5000 RPM.

The sound at the scene was much more powerful than in the video.

Am I suppose to change transmission fluid?

Hi guys I bought 2018 mazda cx5 at 82k mileage. I changed all four spark plugs a week ago at about 99k mileage. I heard transmission fluid can also be problematic but another guy said if I change it now, my car may give me problems because it’s already at 99k mileage. What’s the consensus on transmission fluid? Is it necessary to change it throughout the lifetime of a vehicle? Btw, what other necessary maintenance should I do now to ensure this cx5 last up to 400k mileage (minimum)? I love the car.

Thanks.

2017 Grand Touring touch screen issues

Had to buy a family member a car fast, found a tight, well-maintained car with only one issue-balky touch screen.
I can get functions to work via console keys, but the screen has intermittent fade to black reboots, touch performance finicky.
Is this just a display issue and can I just pop a new one in or is there anything I should try first OR just enjoy the car sans display? 110K miles, Soul Red, really nice car!

2026 CX5 owners - thoughts so far?

For those who currently own a 2026 CX5, what are your thoughts on the vehicle so far? What do you love or hate about it?

Wondering if I should continue renting a car and taking public transportation till the 2027’s come out or move on to a different vehicle. There are no new 2025s near me unfortunately and I don’t want to buy used.

Rear main seal leaking at 50k miles, normal?

Hi guys, just went to the dealer for my regular oil change, dealer said the car has a leaking rear main seal. Not yet severe but we can see some stains between the engine and the transmission. Car is a 2021 with 50k miles, 2.5 NA. Is this normal for a CX5 this mileage and age to have an already leaking rear main seal?

Buying a used CX-5 for daughter

So I spent 15yrs in the auto industry as a service advisor all the way up to director. However I have little knowledge or experience on Mazdas. I’ve gathered a little info from friends here and there and my daughter is in love with the CX-5 as her first

What years and mileage would you consider to look for? We have 5 months to shop and of course she’s dead set on white with tan interior.

2024 CX-5 with a stored P0421 at 55k miles — buy or walk?

Shopping for a used 2024 CX-5 2.5. About 55,000 miles, one owner, no accidents, clean title. It was a rental fleet car driven roughly 28,000 miles a year, and it has been sitting on the lot about 45 days.

I’m in California, but the car itself was originally titled in Oklahoma as a rental and registered in Washington. It only came to CA in 2026.

I brought my own OBD reader. Check engine light is off, all readiness monitors complete, but there is a stored P0421, warm-up catalyst efficiency below threshold, bank 1. Confirmed on two scanners.

What the data showed:

•	Freeze frame: 189°F, closed loop, 48 minutes into a drive, 32 mph, 26% load
•	Long term fuel trim 3.9%, short term 5.5%
•	No misfires, both O2 monitors passed, VVT passed
•	Catalyst monitor has a stored passing result (2.71g vs 1.39g minimum)
•	Baro was 25.7 inHg in the freeze frame, so it failed at roughly 4,000 ft, not sea level
•	Codes last cleared about 12,000 miles ago
•	Drove perfectly, no hesitation, temp steady

Carfax notes: five oil changes in 55,000 miles with one 14,000-mile gap, and coolant flushed twice in three months at a quick-lube place.

Questions:

1.	How often is P0421 on a Skyactiv 2.5 a PCM software issue rather than a genuinely bad converter? I know there was a reflash TSB on the older CX-5 generation but cannot confirm anything for the current one.
2.	Does the warm-up cat really fail at 55,000 miles, or does the altitude detail point to it just being marginal?
3.	A Mazda service advisor told me the emissions warranty is covered if the car was bought and sold in California. This one was not. Does the federal 8-year/80,000-mile catalytic converter warranty still apply to an out-of-state car, and would Mazda honor it here?
4.	In California this fails smog once the light stays on, and the warm-up cat is integrated with the exhaust manifold. Is the $1,500 to $2,500 figure accurate? Anyone outside CA dealt with it?
5.	If it gets fixed under warranty with a repair order, would you buy it? Or is a catalyst code at this mileage a walk-away regardless?
6.	The service advisor also said it could be a lazy downstream O2 sensor rather than the converter. Both O2 monitors passed on my scan. How often does a marginal sensor throw a false P0421 on these?

Thank you. Appreciate you help.

2018 Transmission - replace it or the entire vehicle?

Just got the call from my mechanic that my transmission fluid sample was incredibly burnt and dirty. I'm already over 190k total mileage. I don't have an official estimate yet because they are still getting prices, but I know I'm expecting a pricey repair... Should I just shopping for a new vehicle, or trust my engine to last with a new or rebuilt transmission? Any advice is appreciated, as I've never put this many miles on one single vehicle in my lifetime. Let me know if you have had yours replaced at a high mileage and if you think it's worth it.

Edit to add: it's a 2018 CX-5 touring, I've owned it since it was brand new
