Don't want to be a cop, but likes investigating. Is there a career for me?

Background: pushing thirty, done a lot of odd jobs but been an EMT the last 3 years. I dont think I'm interested in medicine in the long-term, but like helping folks. I like finding out new things, and the "aha" moment when different facts fall into place in an initally confusing call. Dont have a degree, and while going back isnt out of the question, I'll admit I'm not enthusiastic about the idea. I've looked into being a PI for an agency but they want police experience. Was wondering if there was a career that could maybe scratch a similar itch of solving mysteries and maybe help people.

Bought a pair on discount from an auction store. Essentially, every time I close the case it disconnects, even with the buds out. I downloaded the app to get a firmware update, which it says it needs, but the update requires me to close the case, which results in it disconnecting and failing to update. Was wondering if anyone knew a workaround or if I should try to head to an Apple shop, even though I dont have a warranty.
